The study examined how AI agents for three selected major language models interacted with online advertisements for hotel bookings on the website. Each model was given the same prompts and performed the same booking actions.
Banner ads showed more clicks than sponsored or native ad formats. But the most important aspect of an ad’s effectiveness was the content of relevant keywords in the visible text.
Ads with text content performed better than those with text embedded in an image. GPT-4o and Claude responded most to these keywords. With Claude also citing the ad copy most often in his responses.
The researchers say in the report:
